ZIY,

A Kohain's blessing on thee! (Seriously) As for which Psalms: Tikkun HaKlali.

(Actually, האקול מאיאל מוטזאי is a highly compressed "mantra" derived from and, therefore, containing all ten psalms -- the Kabbalistic permutations by which it was derived being described at http://www.donmeh-west.com/katzar.shtml)

I'll contact Avi again. My bet is the first email got lost in the shuffle and/or he is travelling.

YALHAK,

Re "the Wall" - mission accomplished! (I hid it in a deep crevice, where only "the voice" shall reach.)

Didn't hear from Avi.

What 10 chapters of psalms to be read?

Last Sunday I was interviewed on the topic of Gnosticism & Neo-Sabbatian Kabbalah by the Gnostic radio program, "Aeon Byte" (http://www.thegodabovegod.com/).

This is the same Gnostic radio program that recently interviewed Daniel Chanan Matt on Gnosticism & the Zohar.

My interview will be webcast in two weeks. Watch this space for day, date, time and place.

ZIY,

Yep, that's the shliach alright. I didn't want to mention his name, but I'm glad you did. Apparently, he's very, VERY hostile to the Ma'aminim.

Ilgaz Zorlu, the Turkish Ma'amin who wrote the tell-all book about the secret rites of the Ma'aminim a few years back, has been trying to gain acceptance for the Ma'aminim as Jews for many years now, without success. It always comes down to the issue of possible mamzerimkite.

I even got my friend Rabbi Yosi Markel involved. He said sure, if they converted orthodox and went to the mikvah there would be no problem.

But Zorlu and his group said no, they would not "convert." they wanted to be accepted as jews without the mikvah and to make aliyah to israel with all the rights of returning jews. they were denied. zorlu hasn't spoken to me since.

Another comment: 2 definitions of "virtual" - (1) almost, as in "he virtually made it to the store," or practically, as in "he knew virtually the whole shas by heart," (2) as used specifically in the technological sense of virtual reality, as in "if he doesn't have a real life at least he has a virtual one on 'Second Life'."

re thought intention: looking back at this thread, i see a diyuk in "igeret magen avraham" quoted above when discussing to still adhere to halachah:

"...and guard and be vary careful that your thoughts do not stumble you even a strand..."

which may be implying that although you may be thinking (machshavah) that we are w/ the tree of life torah of atzilut, still do not let these thoughts or kavanot stray you from keeping the law, & still follow halachah.

Yalhak: I had to rush to Tel Aviv & will be back in J-m at the end of the week. I have "it" ready & shall do then.

Did not hear from Avi. WIll try to search him out tomorrow.

As for Rabbi Izak, he is accesible on facebook. If you want I shall email him too. He is more open to discussion about all this, although when he attended a donmeh conference not too long ago (itself a big step for a chabadnik) he told them straight up that he has nothing to tell them or any insights to give them since he represents halachic judaism. still he is approachable at least to discuss why he has nothing to say.

the chabad shliach in istanbul (& head shliach of turkey) is mendy chitrik, who i assume is the son of aron chitrik of tsfat. he comes from a gezhe family & more involved with the established jewish community than izak is with the established jewish community of izmir.

there is a new shliach in antalya too, a rabbi litzman, also from israel i think.

if lubavitch can reach out to "gentiles" vis-a-vis the 7 noachide laws & moshiach, surely they can reach out to the donmeh, at least about these concepts. & surely lubavitch can learn a thing or 2 from the ma'aminim vis-a-vis hoe to deal with a post-mortem messiah & the whole cognitive dissonance thing.

atgate,

you read my mind. this was and still is a high point in 7fc history. (Largely, I think, because -- as the serious reader will notice -- i kept my big kike-nose out of it.)
