There is empty, concrete land  sitting there doing nothing in front of city hall.

There is a campaign going on now to get the mayor to plant a vegetable garden there, please sign the petition and help make this happen.

From the Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv,

כעת יצא הספר (באנגלית) שמתעד את מסעו המפותל, תחת השם המרומם "חסידיס קנאביס: תורת הסמים הקדומה והמתחדשת" - Cannabis Chassidis: The Ancient and Emerging Torah of Drugs (הוצאת "עצמוס")

Batter my heart, three-personed God, for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise, and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurped town, to another due,
Labour to admit you, but Oh, to no end.
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captived, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be loved fain,
But am betrothed unto your enemy:
Divorce me, untie or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.
- John Donne, Holy Sonnets, XIV

Here is the torah from R. Heinich Alkesander I posted two years ago about Matan Torah being an act of rape.

THE BURNING BUSH!
Genre: Comedy, Festival, Solo

Written & Performed by Tracey Erin Smith

Burning Bush Productions presents The Burning Bush!, Tracey Erin Smith’s audacious full-length version of her two award-winning hit solo shows The Burning Bush! and Two in the Bush!. Directed by Anita La Selva, the comedy about a ‘stripping Rabbi’ saving souls one lap dance at a time performs June 3 through 11, 2009 as part of Untitled Theater Company #61’s The Festival of Jewish Theater and Ideas.

“Yentl” meets “Showgirls” in this one-woman road show about a female Rabbinical student who stumbles into a strip club and discovers her true calling: spreading Jewish wisdom with her posse of exotic-dancing back-up preachers. All goes smoothly until they take their ‘stripping-Rabbi’ show on the road to seniors’ homes and are forced to run for it in the RV they call the Bush Mobile. With the aid of religious guru and comic Jackie Mason and Madonna’s inspirational lyrics, the ladies find that love, hope and mysticism are always just around the corner.

Hailed as “equal parts hilarious, captivating and smart” by Eye Weekly and “reverent and irreverent” by NYTheatre.com, Tracey Erin Smith’s one-act solo shows The Burning Bush! and Two in the Bush! won Best of Toronto Fringe in 2006 and 2007, respectively.   Each play also garnered the Audience Choice Award at the Frigid Festival.  This production marks the New York premiere of the full-length version.

Tracey Erin Smith graduated from Vancouver’s Studio 58 Theatre School.  She was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Award (Vancouver’s Tony) for The One that Got Away.  She is a rabbinical student at the Rabbinical Seminary International in New York.  The Burning Bush! is currently in pre-production as  feature film with Jackie Mason, who appears as a character in the play, slated to play himself.

Anita La Selva’s credits include Two in the Bush! (Toronto Fringe, NYC Frigid Festival, Vancouver Chutzpah Festival) and A Soldier’s Story, named one of NOW Magazine’s Best of Fest for Outstanding Director and Production.  The creative team includes Drew Jurecka (original music), Rebekah Wolkstein (violinist), Trevor Schwellnus (lighting design) and Erika Connor (costume design).  The stage manager is Michael Haltrecht

Voldoya Rebbe on getting high with hallucinogenics

According to the Voldoya Rebbe, a great poilishe rebbe (circa 1850?), the meaning of dishantu bashemen roishi is that you made us high on pot, literally. He supports this view of shemen as an intoxicated, hallucinogenic mental state from many verses like 'yayin levav adam yismach, lihatzhil panav mishamen;' also 'lolam yihyu bigadecha levamnim veshemen al roishcha al yechsar'; also 'shimanta avisa kasisa' also 'vyiten lecha eloihim mital hashamayim umishmanei aretz'. He goes on to explain that this is a part of the 'yancheni bmaaglei tzedek lmaan shmoi,' and tyhat shivticha umishantecha hema yinachamuni' are different kinds of reefers and blunts (פאפאראסי"ן וציגארעטי"ן).

but he was using spelt! and according to wikipedia, כוסמין is not spelt but "emmer wheat". spelt was not grown in the ancient fertile crescent, but emmer wheat was, and still grows wild in northern israel.

(the title refers to this psyco american older hippie living in jerusalem and believing himself to be the Kohen Godol, offers sacrafices every day to our Lord! he also grows about a 1/4 acre of the finest ganja available in Jerusalem and makes joints the size of ice cream cones.)

It's about time NY did somthing good for itself  and humanity, here's an expert from the AP

But after cracking down and incarcerating hundreds of thousands, cash-strapped states including New York, Kentucky and Kansas are pulling back. They face an uncommon confluence of dire economics and prisons bursting at the seams and several have changed, in whole or in part, their stances on hard punishment.

Their reasons: the get-tough laws didn't always work, especially when it came to slowing recidivism, the revolving door of prisoners who get out, mess up again, and come back. There were legal challenges, and questions about whether the punishment always fit the crime.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         And of course, there's the money. In tough economic times, the expensive laws are increasingly being deemed expendable.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Last week, New York reached an agreement to repeal the last vestiges of the Rockefeller drug laws, once considered the harshest in the nation.                                                                                                                                                                             It's expected to save some $250 million per year — New York spends about $45,000 annually per inmate while treatment cost estimates are $15,000 or less — at a time when the state is grappling with a projected budget hole of $17.7 billion
