There is empty, concrete land  sitting there doing nothing in front of city hall.

There is a campaign going on now to get the mayor to plant a vegetable garden there, please sign the petition and help make this happen.

The Letter of the Rebbe Reb Bunim on Rosh Ha-Shanah

August 29, 2009 By: atgate231 Category: 'tis a plant, 7FATCOW EXCLUSIVE, a slow news day, freudian, hechereh zachen, l'chaim!, public service, shah! di rebeh redt…, synchronicity, torah, trip reports 4 Comments →

This letter was sent by the Rebbe Reb Bunim to one of his Chasidim who couldn’t make to him for the holiday. It was also signed by some of his other Chasidim as well as Reb Bunim’s son Avraham Moshe.

Sunday, Ki Savo, 1826 – here in Pershuschah.

Life, peace and joy to his honor, the friend of my soul and heart, the brilliant and sharp rabbi of renown, the perfect sage, his name is known at the gates, his honored name, our teacher the Rabbi Alexander Ziskind, may his light shine.

Since it is a number of years (until the coming of the Redeemer) that ‘the honor of his torah’ resides within the chamber of my heart, and is a friend in the hidden reaches of my thoughts’ legacy, I will speak this time as to my own heart.

It is written (II Kings, 4:13) “I dwell in the midst of my people” and it is written (Jeremiah 31:3) “God appeared to me from afar” – and this is the secret of Rosh Ha-Shanah. The joy and the anxiety are concealed in fear (ha-simchah ve-ha-da’agah musteres be-pachad) may god grant us both together. The understanding grows from the deed; for the deed is “mystery” and the understanding is “light,” and they resemble each other (ha-binah tigdal me-ha-ma’asah ki ha-ma’asah “raz” (=207) ve-ha-binah “or” (=207) ve-sh’neihem domim).

And bless God, who has preserved and sustained us, that we rise in remembrance before the Lord of all, so that perhaps it arouse mercy to take us from darkness to light. With God’s help, ‘the honor of his torah’ will not be forgotten from our hearts and from the hearts of all the members of our group, for a good remembrance. And may God in His mercy give him joy and life and a “writing and sealing of good” to him and his household and his entire city.

Thus the words of his soul and heart which yearns with love,

Simchah Bunim.

We too, his loved ones and friends, seek his welfare with love and may the blessing of our Rabbi (may he live) be fulfilled and may we merit to hear from him good tidings and rejoice together always, with his soul and the souls of his friends,

The small one, Yitzchak of Zarik (Vorker Rebbe)

The small one, Yitzchak Meir (Chidushey Ha-Rim)

The small one, Menachem Mendel of Tomishov (Kotzker Rebbe)

Meir Kvaller

R. Yaakov Vorker (Radzminer Rebbe) and R. Shlomo Zalshiner indicate his welfare as they are in the middle of praying.

I, the young one, too seek his welfare and I ask of him that he preserve this letter and bring it with him, god willing, when he travels here and then we shall study it together in an in-depth seminar.

The words of his beloved friend, the small one,

Avraham Moshe

From the Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv,

כעת יצא הספר (באנגלית) שמתעד את מסעו המפותל, תחת השם המרומם "חסידיס קנאביס: תורת הסמים הקדומה והמתחדשת" - Cannabis Chassidis: The Ancient and Emerging Torah of Drugs (הוצאת "עצמוס")

PETRUSHKA = ROOT PARSLEY NOT PARSNIP

A root vegetable, native to the Mediterranean that closely resembles a parsnip, but has a pale white color rather than creamy yellow. Quite often this root will have the parsley leaves attached to the top of the root, which can be used in the same manner as traditional parsley for garnishing and flavoring foods. The leaves on the root are similar to Curly Leaf Parsley, but broader in width. Parsley roots have a flavor that tastes somewhat nutty with a celery and carrot overtone. It can be served fresh, fried, sautéed, or baked, as an ingredient to soups, stews, rice dishes, salads, vegetables, and other foods.

Parsley roots are available throughout the year. Select those that have fresh, dark green leaves and/or firm, plump roots that do not contain blemishes. To store, moisten lightly, wrap in paper towels and place in the vegetable drawer of a refrigerator. where they should stay fresh for up to one week. Whe preparing, remove the leaves and dice, shred, or slice for use either cooked or fresh. Parsley root is also known as Hamburg parsley, Dutch parsley, Turnip-rooted parsley, Rock Selinen, and Rock Parsley.

Holocaust survivors offer to redeem us all from marijuana prohibition.

Holy cow.

from Google News:

Jerusalem:  Elderly Holocaust survivors and pot lovers united to form a party in a desperate struggle to win public attention in a security-dominated campaign for Israel's February 10 elections.

In one of the most bizarre alliances in the history of the country's eclectic political parties, "Holocaust Survivors and Grown-Up Green Leaf" launched their campaign on Tuesday night under the banner of "The Moral Choice'.

The party is calling for improved social conditions for thousands of Holocaust survivors and for the legalisation of cannabis.

Apparently there was a split in the old guard of Aleh Yarok when comedian Gil Kopatch was elected the new head by it's members.  Young whip Ohad Shem-Tov (!?!?!) who had risen quickly in the ranks of the party by some very impressive student organizing, took control of the remains of the party, and promptly seems to be making a really serious go for transcending juvenile media-games, and beginning a coalition that might get as may as six or seven seats!

The coalition of older pensioniers and college kids goes back to the last elections, where the pensioniers party did shockingly well, because university students had taken to voting for them as a protest (joke) vote. But it spiralled into the most important, dynamic, and unpredictable factors in a knesset that depended on them for majority power. Will that be the case now, this year, with the elections only a few weeks away… except with WEED!!!!!!!!!!?

The

Holocaust survivors are focused on the controversial issue of their state pension disbursement, which has been weakened by rising demands among the country's retired workers.

The party accuses the government of misappropriating funds, donated by Germany, that were supposed to be given to

Holocaust survivors. The survivors' party alleges that instead, those monies have been paid in part to thousands of other Israelis who have no connection to the Holocaust, to ease the government's pension burden.

Yaakov Kfir, the party's leader, said he joined forces with the Green Leaf

Graduates to attract more attention to the survivors' cause.

"The fact that I am interviewed by so many media outlets indicates that the decision to hook up with the Aleh Yarok

graduates was smarter than if I had chosen to go with a larger, more solid party," Kfir said on Wednesday.

"And that is a shos ['terrific' in Hebrew slang], as the youngsters taught me. The voice of the

Holocaust survivors is finally being heard, and this is how I hope to get to the 350,000

Holocaust survivors
and their offspring."

Kfir, a 74-year-old survivor from Petah Tikva, has campaigned for better health care for survivors for 25 years. But after a series of political defeats, he finally chose to get involved in the process directly.

"I have decided that 'if I am not for myself - who will be?' It's time we take care of ourselves, and this might be our last chance to make sure that, despite the fact we had no childhood, we at least reach old age decently and even be allowed to use medical marijuana if the need emerges," Kfir said.
